'SOME CHOCOLATE TO TOUCH THAT SKY': ACTRESS MAMTA MOHANDAS' MESSAGE ON WORLD VITILIGO DAY

Actress Mamta Mohandas took to Instagram to share a powerful message on World Vitiligo Day. The actress was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last year.

Taking to Instagram, she dropped a photo of her while embracing the condition, accompanied by the note. “Some ‘Chocolate’ to touch that ‘Vanilla’ sky! Happy World Vitiligo Day,” her note reads.

The actress also thanked Renju Renjimar and Surya Ishaan in her note and said, “I thank @renjurenjimar and @surya_ishaan from the bottom of my heart for helping me show up every single day at work with the much-needed confidence to face the camera. This phase of my life would’ve been unimaginable without you. I know it. For that and more, I love you both so very much.”

As soon as the post was shared, her followers reacted in the comment section and praised her for her courage. One user wrote, “Born fighter. Admire you for ur courage and spirit,” while another said, “True Iron Lady. You will always be an inspiration for women.” The third one said, “Power pack of positivity.”

World Vitiligo Day is observed annually on June 25 to raise awareness about vitiligo. The rare skin condition affects 1-2 per cent of people worldwide. It is an autoimmune disorder that causes a change of colour in the skin and creates a variety of patterns from the loss of pigment.

Last year, she opened up about being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease vitiligo. She shared pictures in an Instagram post along with a caption that read, “Dear, I embrace you now like I have never before. So Spotted, I’m losing colour…I rise even before you every morning, to see you glimmer your first ray through the haze. Give me all you’ve got..for I will be indebted, here on out and forever by your grace.”

Mamta is also a cancer survivor. A few years ago, she experienced a relapse of cancer. She spoke to Time of India in 2014 and said, “Well, I can’t say I have been as strong as I was when I first got the disease. I was a person who never worried about anything, whatever the issue. But for the first time in my life, I was scared. It is easy to say, be positive. But this time, I felt it is ok to be scared, to be human.”
