WEIGHT LOSS STORY: THIS 32-YEAR-OLD WOMAN LOST 68 KGS WITH A STRICT DIET; HERE’S HER STORY

We all want to look the best when we dress up, but there are times when we can't find our size. That’s when we regret having double cheese pizza along with our favourite sundae. Being a foodie, it becomes even more tough to control cravings and think about the consequences. PCOD, diabetes, and hypertension are some common illnesses that occur due to excessive weight gain which can even hamper your daily routine and lead to self-criticism. This is exactly what happened with 32-year-old Dr Anshi Rathod, who despite being a doctor herself could not control her food cravings and in no time weighed 130 kgs.

“I have always been an obese child, a complete foodie and someone who did not care about health. Like any other person, I also wanted to look my best in my teens and twenties but never wanted to exercise or diet to achieve it. When I approached my mid-twenties, food became an addiction. I became 130 kilos in no time. Being a doctor, I was aware of the health consequences I could have, but my mind was flooded with self-criticism and low self-esteem that I ignored my health,” Anshi said.

Soon after she developed PCOD, and hypertension and became pre-diabetic, but then Anshi decided to get out of this vicious circle. “I asked myself that day, I am 29, I have a career ahead, a long way to live but do I want these diseases with me? That day I changed,” she said.

Anshi Rathod’s weight loss journey started in 2020 when she weighed 130 kgs but with her determination, consistency and focus, she was able to achieve her weight loss goal. Her father and father-in-law inspired her to embark on this weight journey and kept motivating her to achieve her goals. “My father and my father-in-law both have always been my inspiration. Despite being very busy doctors, both always make time for their health every day. I hit rock bottom when I developed PCOD and hypertension and that’s when I pushed myself and took all the inspiration from my father to become the person I am today,” Anshi said.

With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, many people became hopeless and used it as an excuse to not exercise or follow a specific diet, but Anshi on the other hand made the most out of the lockdown. Within three years Anshi underwent a massive weight loss transformation and lost 68 kgs in three years.

Biggest Challenges That You Faced During Weight Loss Journey

“There were two major challenges that I faced during my weight loss journey. First, I love food. Food for me even today is a way to heal. Being a foodie, giving up on certain food or even portion control was an emotional turmoil. It took me months to master the art of mindful eating. The second challenge for me was the loss of patience. Everyone wants to see results fast. But it’s not the case when we are on a weight loss journey. I stood on the weight scale every day and when I did not see my weight going down, I would want to give up and turn to food again,” Anshi said.

Weight Loss Diet And Exercise Regime During Your Transformation

“I prefer having a high protein breakfast every day which includes six egg whites, tofu or soya chunks in a variety of preparations with a paratha and a cup of hot tea. My lunch consists of some egg whites with vegetables or legumes and some Greek yogurt or curd. I have an early light dinner by 6 and limit my portion. It either includes some fruits or soup. I make sure I have a good amount of protein but I do not skip my carbs and fat as they are essential too,” Anshi said.

“I hit the gym five days a week where I prefer morning workouts. I do my cardio first and then weight training,” she further added.

Did You Encounter Any Setbacks in Weight Loss Journey, And If So, How Did You Overcome Them?

“There are times when you do everything right but the weight remains stuck for days, weeks or even months – the plateau. I have encountered this thrice and for months. It was frustrating. But I knew it was a mind game. I still kept doing almost everything right for months and suddenly one day the weight started to move. What helped me was a little change in the diet and the type of exercise. Your body gets bored and used to it if you keep on doing the same type of routine every day. So, try new exercises and once in a while eat to treat your body well,” Anshi said.

What Advice Do You Have For Others Who Are Looking To Embark On A Similar Weight Loss Transformation Journey?

“It’s true that you must always love yourself in any shape and size but never at the cost of your health. If body positivity comes at the cost of your health, it’s called negligence. It’s one of the most rewarding journeys. All you need is some patience and the willingness to create a new routine, palate taste and acceptance of new habits for a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

How Has Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?

A healthy body leads to a positive mindset, which is what happened with Anshi. “A healthy lifestyle always outlasts. I have got my confidence back. I am more focused and happier now than I was back then. My mindset has changed. I am a more energetic and optimistic person today,” she said.
