WEIGHT LOSS STORY: THIS 24-YEAR-OLD GIRL LOST 26 KGS IN 5 MONTHS WITH HOME WORKOUTS - HERE’S HER STORY

When you are a foodie, weight loss seems to be a far-fetched dream as all you think about is what are you going to eat next. But at the end of the day, we all know losing weight and keeping yourself fit is essential for your overall well-being. There are times when you try your level best by indulging yourself in weight loss plans, and gymming but still, there are no results and then you go back to your original eating habits. This is exactly what happened with the 24-year-old nursing student, Ashwini Gaigole who weighed 80.70 kgs and lost 26.7 kgs in 5 months.

“Before stepping into a proper weight loss journey, I had tried several programs for weight loss which were nothing but a waste of time, effort and money. One of the many programs I invested my money in was a meal replacement plan which I did for three months. It increased my cravings as they had put me on only ‘one meal a day diet’ and the only thing I could have was their shakes and drinks,” Ashwini said.

“Finally, I decided to do it by myself and learn through the journey. I had a basic understanding of nutrition as it was a part of my curriculum so I started implementing it and could see results.

This is when I learned the importance of balanced dieting,” she further added.

What Inspired You To Embark On This Journey?

Like many others, Ashwini was also bullied and criticised by her peers for her weight. But she took it as an inspiration to embark on her weight loss journey. “What inspired me was the constant criticism from my seniors in college, my batchmates and even the teachers, their taunts about my weight and health. It took a toll on my mental health but I could not run from it so I decided to take up the challenge of losing weight,” she said.

“Apart from this, my mother’s enthusiasm towards health and fitness inspired me. She does Zumba and regularly goes on walks. Even though she is dealing with arthritis she always loves staying active. She was my biggest cheerleader during my journey,” Ashwini further said.

Biggest Challenges Faced During Weight Loss Journey

“The biggest challenge was managing my academics and hectic schedule as a nursing student. Time management and losing weight in a hostel, helped me design a program with easy-to-make homemade food. I broke down the whole process into several milestones as per my desired weights and focused on my daily tasks which helped me achieve that particular weight,” she said.

How Did You Stay Motivated Throughout Your Weight Loss Journey?

Ashwini took one step at a time and broke down the whole process into several milestones as per her desired weights. She focused on her daily tasks which helped her achieve the goal. “I just kept pushing myself everyday which led me to build new habits, and once I got a knack of the habit, following a schedule became much easier,” Ashwini mentioned.

Though cravings work as a barrier in the weight loss journey, Ashwini used her cravings as a reward.

“Chocolate pastries are my favourite, so I decided to eat them only when I achieved my milestone, which was the biggest motivation for me,” she noted.

Diet And Exercise Regimen During Your Transformation

“My main focus was on my nutrition, I had a balanced diet i.e. protein, fats, carbs, fibres, minerals and vitamins. I made sure to exercise 5-6 times a week and also prioritized rest days for recovery. As I stayed at the hostel, going to the gym felt difficult. That's when I made up my mind for home workouts and made it a goal to complete 10k steps everyday,” she mentioned.

Functional training, squats, body weight lunges, jumping jacks, floor bridges, knee pushups, crunches, planks and leg raises were a part of Ashwini’s fitness regime.

Did You Encounter Any Setbacks, And How Did You Overcome Them?

“The most difficult part was handling the cravings as I am a big-time foodie, everytime my friends used to eat something I loved, it was quite difficult for me to control my craving. Also, there were days when I could not give my 100 per cent, like during exams and busy schedules, but I made sure to fill the lag in following days,” Ashwini said.

What Advice Do You Have For Others Who Are Looking To Embark On A Similar Transformation Journey?

“I would request everyone to not just focus on losing weight but please improve their overall health. One can lose weight even by starving yourselves but that will not make them healthy, it will have its repercussions in the long term. Build healthy habits and enjoy them, understand what your body needs and don't go on crash diets. Opt for homemade foods like dal, chawal, sabzi, roti, and salads, because it’s the best,” she noted.

How Has Your Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?

“It has changed completely, I feel more confident and energetic. I feel more comfortable and happy in my skin. People's perspectives and opinions have changed about me. It has given me a sense of achievement. It has got me trying different styles of clothing which I could only Imagine trying before,” Ashwini said.

“Most importantly, the things I did for my weight loss, I have designed a program by implementing the same things, wherein now people from across the globe are taking up my weight loss program, achieving their desired body/weight and transforming their lives,” Ashwini said.
