HOW TO DRESS TO BEAT THE SUMMER HEAT

Summer is a tough season to dress for. The scorching heat makes it unbearable to be in snug outfits or wear dark hues and non-breathable fabrics. Choosing the right summer clothes, styles, fits and materials can make all the difference.

Comfortable clothing should top the list when upgrading or planning the summer wardrobe and looking to stay cool yet stylish. Clothes can aggravate summer skin concerns if they're made from non-breathable fabrics or have tight-fitting styles. Synthetic materials, such as polyester, trap heat and moisture, leading to irritation and rashes.

Lightweight, breathable outfits crafted from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen can help mitigate these issues. "A well-curated summer wardrobe is essential to combat skin concerns, such as allergies and rashes. Tight clothing can restrict airflow, trapping sweat and bacteria, while dark colours absorb heat, exacerbating sunburns. Opting for loose-fitting, light-coloured garments allows the skin to breathe and reflect sunlight, reducing the risk of irritation and sun damage," says Raghav Agarwal, CEO of Twamev, a lifestyle clothing brand.

Working men can opt for breathable and airy fabrics, such as linen and cotton, in light shades while women can opt for loose-fitting, breathable outfits in various styles, such as dresses, co-ords, skirts, jumpsuits, pant suits, shirts and tops, casual kurtas or organza and georgette saris, for a polished yet comfortable look. Children can stay cool in playful dresses or shorts made from soft, breathable materials, such as organic cotton, allowing them to enjoy outdoor activities without discomfort.

"Top summer-friendly fabrics include cotton, linen and lightweight silk due to their breathability and moisture-wicking properties," says Ritika Saluja, founder of Dramebaaz, a contemporary women's fashion brand. "These materials keep you cool and dry, making them perfect for summer wear."

The colours you choose for summer wear are also essential. Certain hues not only protect you from overheating but also exude the breezy, light-hearted vibe of the sunny season. You can add to the summer look and accessorise with lightweight jewellery, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
